Here’s everything you need to know about the action in Saturday’s game:
- Twins’ closer Joe Nathan left with tightness in his surgically repaired elbow today. I’ll follow up on this tomorrow.
- The underrated Shaun Marcum pitched two scoreless innings for the Blue Jays today against the Yankees. He gave up no runs and no hits while walking one and striking out two. Marcum is coming back from Tommy John Surgery.
- The Dodgers had both Jeff Weaver and Eric Gagne pitched for them today (yeah, they still pitch). Both pitchers performed poorly.
- Carlos Quentin had 2 HR and 5 RBI today…all against newly acquired Cubs’ pitcher Carlos Silva. Silva gave up 6 ER in just 2 IP.
- Albert Pujols is still without a hit this spring after going 0 for 3 today.
- Fernando Martinez, a former top prospect who has faltered in his brief time in the Majors, smashed 2 HR and went 4 for 4 today against the Nationals.
- John Lackey pitched two perfect innings for the Red Sox, while Francisco Liriano struck out three batters in two innings of work in the same game.
- Kevin Millwood got absolutely shellacked (it’s really a word, I swear) against the Tigers today. 0.2 IP, 6 ER. Ouch.
