Medal Watching!

Canada is full steam ahead!

I wrote last week that the fates of Canada and The Russian Federation Russia for the entire Olympic Games would be decided on a quarterfinals hockey tilt. As outlandish as that may have seemed, it looks rather genius in hindsight.

Since then, the Canadians have been owning the podium. They currently have the most gold medals of any country in 2010, and just need to keep pace to hold off Norway for third place in overall medals. With just a day left, Canada should be sitting pretty and no jokes have to be made about renting of such grand stages to their southern neighbor.

Russia, on the other hand, was the country subjugated to a Tyson-esque beating at the hands of Canada in that same QF game sits in sixth place, and looks like they’ll lose their spot to South Korea. Against all odds, the South Koreans(one medal behind) have managed to tally fourteen medals, even though they pretty much only compete in two sports.

Here’s the medal count as of today. It should be noted that the four man bobsled event just finished, and the United States took gold, Germany with the silver, and Canada grabbed the bronze. The gold medal curling game is right around the corner as well, so chalk up one more medal in the totals column for Canada and Norway.
